Nikon D300 Add On

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Shooting with a D300,  D300s, D3, D3s or D3x?  Ever use the D2X?  The skin tones on the D2x were claimed to be the best Nikon ever came out with.  Because of this, Nikon has made available a download from their global site where you can load the Picture Control settings into your current camera.  They have provided a Landscape download, a Portrait download (my favorite) and a general (modes 1, 2 and 3) download - all free from Nikon.  These are all available at the Nikon Global Site.

These have actually been available for some time and I’ve had them in my D300 since I first heard of them but wanted to really check them out thoroughly before passing the word around.

Cool New Stuff

I was showing a SONY Cybershot DSC-WX1 camera to a customer yesterday and he asked how fast the hi speed capture is on that one. To tell you the truth, I had been so entranced by the “Sweep Panorama” feature on this one, I hadn’t even checked out some of the other cool things it will do.
Setting the continuous shooting through the menu to hi caused the camera to take 10 pictures in about 1 second at the full 10mp resolution. It took a few seconds for the camera to record all 10 to the card afterword but . . . wow! Nikon put a similar feature in the P90 (24X optical zoom) but at a lower resolution when it’s set to hi speed shooting. I guess the only down side to the Cybershot is it only has a 5X zoom (fine for most - not enough for some).
I’ll fill you in on any other things I trip across while playing at this.
