Overcast today and the Weather guy says a possibility of light rain. So far, so good. When I’m out shooting on a day like today I usually have a Kata Element Cover (camera rain coat) tucked away somewhere on my person or in my pack. Always better safe than sorry.
Days like today are a winner for taking pictures outdoors. There are still some shadows in the scene but the clouds make for a very diffuse light and the shadow detail in the pictures is a lot easier to manage without burning out highlights. The down side to cloudy day shooting is the sky looks gray and dreary so I usually try to keep it mostly out of the shot unless the composition demands that it be there. On the other hand, for outdoor portraits, it doesn’t get any better. Some slight flash to fill the subject and put catch lights in in the eyes and the percentage of good pictures goes way up.
